Southern Regional Units

Unit Training

The Sorell SES Unit is a municipal unit sponsored by the Sorell Council for road crash rescue. The volunteers also train in general rescue and storm and flood damage.

The Incident Management Unit provides incident management support to Regional Headquarters, TFS and Tasmania Police.

The Incident Management Unit has the responsibility to operate the Regional Operations Centre at the Regional Headquarters, the mobile emergency operations centre to provide emergency radio communications, logistics support, staging area management, administration support in operational activities as required.

Unit Training
Fortnightly on a Wednesday evening from 7:00pm.

The Southern Region General Response Unit role is to provide storm, flood and general rescue response to the cities of Hobart, Glenorchy and Clarence, and the municipalities of Kingborough and Sorell. GRU South also provides operational support in times of bushfire to the Tasmania Fire Service as well as land search support to other SES units and Tasmania Police. This unit is often requested to assist Tasmania Police in scene preservation and traffic control for large events.

Fortnightly on a Thursday evening.

The Search and Rescue (SAR) Team undertakes remote area search and rescue training and operations. Training includes search techniques, communications, navigation and first aid. SAR Teams have the ability to rapidly deploy on extended searches anywhere in Tasmania and are required to perform these duties regardless of seasonal weather or terrain. As a regional resource they support Tasmania Police across the region and on occasion are utilised on a statewide basis.

The Brighton SES Unit is a General Rescue Unit providing storm, flood and general response to the municipal area of Brighton and other areas as required.

The Bruny Island SES Unit is a municipal unit sponsored by the Kingborough Council for road crash rescue. The volunteers also train in general rescue and storm and flood damage.

The Central Highlands SES Unit is a municipal unit based in Wayatinah. Its primary role is road crash rescue.

The Derwent Valley SES Unit is based in New Norfolk. It is a very active road crash rescue unit with a secondary role of storm damage response.

The Glamorgan/Spring Bay SES Unit is based in Swansea and is an active road crash rescue unit with a secondary role in Storm and flood response.

 

The Huon Valley SES Unit is based in Huonville and is on call 24 hours a day. It is a very active road crash rescue unit which also trains in general rescue and storm damage.
